On Monday 9th November, Year 3 will be taking part in an exciting ‘Maths in the Real World’ workshop delivered by Mabel, a volunteer working alongside National Numeracy.

During the session, Mabel will talk to the children about how maths is used in everyday life and share examples from her own career and experiences. The children will then explore a range of fictional characters, thinking about their jobs and hobbies, and discussing where maths might be used in these real-life situations.

As an optional follow-up activity, children will be invited to complete a Maths in the Real World Reflection Sheet at home with their parents or carers. As mentioned in previous newsletters, discussing how maths is used in everyday life is a fantastic way to develop positive attitudes towards mathematics and encourage meaningful mathematical conversations beyond the classroom.

If your child completes the reflection sheet, please return it to Miss Day or Miss Gavin, who will pass it on to Miss Sarjeant. Children who complete the activity will receive a certificate, and their reflections may be shared with Mabel and National Numeracy to celebrate their learning.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming Mabel to Year 3 and would like to thank her in advance for giving her time to support our children through these workshops. Similar sessions will be offered to the rest of the school later in the academic year.

We are sure the children will enjoy discovering just how important maths is in the world around them!
