Welcome from our Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Wallace Fields Junior School website.

You will find this website highly informative and useful and it should answer many of your questions.

We are proud of our many achievements at Wallace Fields Junior School – of our happy and friendly atmosphere and the hard work and innovation of the staff and pupils. We are a school of excellent achievement in academic results, we make excellent provision for the personal and social development of the children here and we offer a huge range of activities both within a broad and balanced curriculum and through a variety of many different school clubs and events. As Ofsted said in our last report:

“Pupils value the way everyone is welcomed and included at Wallace Fields Junior School. Pupils love coming to this school to see their friends and to learn new things together. They are engaged in lessons because they are cared for by a team of committed staff who work together very well. Happy pupils show high levels of respect for each other and for adults. Pupils care for and help one another, which builds on the strong support staff give to everyone. Pupils behave very well, and bullying is rare”

All the staff work extremely hard for the good of the school, and the PTA and governors are all highly committed, where we all strive relentlessly to ensure the children are stimulated, happy and safe. We believe that an active relationship with parents and carers is essential and so everyone is welcome and we feel the school works fully and harmoniously with the local community.  We have the full range of highly experienced teaching and support staff, keeping our approaches to life at school, fresh and vibrant whilst remaining perceptive and well informed.

The children enjoy amazing residential trips in year 4, 5 and 6 and the school boasts many victories in sport along with success in artistic, musical and competitive events all over the county.

Our results are strong, genuine and carefully monitored. The children’s progress is consistently tracked and reviewed to ensure all children are meeting their true potential and we ensure that children find lessons stimulating, challenging and fun.

Anna Champness, former Rosebery Head Girl wrote the following about our school:

"I truly enjoyed being at Wallace Fields Junior School and look back with the fondest memories. The teachers went above and beyond to encourage curiosity and active learning in every lesson: we wrote short stories in English, did countless science experiments, learnt to play instruments together in music, were taught how to code in ICT. This made the move to secondary school so much easier, because I had developed a strong work ethic and a thirst for knowledge. Outside the classroom, I remember getting involved with loads of extracurricular opportunities (a variety of clubs, the school production, day trips, assemblies, concerts and more). But, it was the legendary residential trips that we all looked forward to. They were the highlight of each year! I am so grateful for the time I spent at Wallace Fields Junior School; it set me up for the future in the best possible way."

We stream many meetings and events to enable parents to engage remotely, including a number of parental support workshops and we have signed up to the National Online Safety (NOS) programme which provides videos and practical advice for parents about keeping your children safe in this highly technological era. As part of that online protection, smartphones are banned in school and online safety is taught throughout the curriculum at age appropriate levels and advice is available in our weekly newsletters. Our parent consultations are in person and online each term, depending on parental preference. Our school has a friendly and happy atmosphere and we sustain enthusiasm, creativity, inclusivity and high expectations for learning across the school within a safe and positive environment.

We accept visitors into school and if you would like to have a look around please look out for the school tour dates on the website (these normally happen during the autumn term).  You will be shown round by our Year 6 prefects and I will speak to you in person when you visit. If you are deaf or hearing impaired, I am British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 so I can chat with you in a separate meeting if required. If the tours are finished then please call our wonderful office team and they will answer your questions.

Thanks for looking at our website.. I look forward to seeing you in the future,

Mr Steve Lee, Headteacher
