On Monday this week, the children enjoyed making a bit (or rather, a lot!) of creative noise when they took part in their Junk Percussion workshop led by Mr Gilmore from Sussex Music Workshops. This workshop was planned as an introduction to our music composition projects that we are starting in each year group, based on The Great Outdoors.
The purpose of these sessions was to help the children understand that everyday objects can be used creatively to make a wide range of musical sounds - just as natural objects outdoors can create interesting noises. When combined, these sounds can build exciting musical textures.
I think my favourite piece of junk was the large water bottle - there were so many different ways to create different effects! The children also had to think carefully about how to structure their rhythms as a group in order to build their final composition.
Here are some photos from each year group to give you a little taste of the day.
Many thanks to the PTA for funding this lovely opportunity for every child.
