Year 5 were visited by Jen from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service on Tuesday. Jen spoke to us about keeping ourselves safe and how to identify possible fire risks in our homes and school. She spoke about regularly checking our smoke alarms and if you hear a smoke alarm, we need to 'get out, stay out, call 999'. Jen gave out magnets for each Year 5 child to remind families to check their smoke alarm every week. We discussed Fire Action Plans, like the fire drills we do in school. We do these regularly to know how to appropriately respond in the case of a real emergency. Some children said they have a fire action plan at home; it is really important that all children know how to safely exit their home in case of an emergency. We spoke about the importance of having a Plan A and Plan B. This is necessary in case of smoke outside a bedroom door, or the bottom of stairs (for example). Thank you very much Jen for such an informative and important talk.
