On Monday 7th October 2024, our school had an important assembly led by Diversity Lead, Mrs. Kidwai on the significance of celebrating Black History in both the UK and within our school community. We delved into the historical context and importance of recognizing the contributions and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. This celebration goes beyond just one month; it is an ongoing commitment to educate ourselves, challenge stereotypes, and promote inclusivity. By acknowledging Black history, we honour resilience, strength, and innovation in the face of adversity. In the UK, Black History Month is celebrated in October to coincide with major events such as Black History Day on October 1st and Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on October 15th. Throughout this month and the rest of the year, it would be wonderful and purposeful for you to engage in thoughtful discussions with your children about what they are learning and what do they feel about what they are learning.
Kindest regards,
Mrs. S. Kidwai, Year 4 Class Teacher and Faith & Philosophy Lead
