Selected children in Year 5 & 6 have been selected to attend a swimming assessment session on Monday 8th January 2024 during the school day at Epsom College. Children will be assessed on their confidence in the water and their ability to swim in a recognised stroke for 25m. Following the assessment on 8th January and due to restricted numbers, priority will be given to non- swimmers and weak swimmers to continue on the swimming programme. Selected children will be invited to continue in the swimming programme for the next 8 weeks and parents will be informed. Lessons will then continue for selected children on Monday mornings: 8 th January (assessment session) Selected children continue on: 15th, 22nd and 29th January, 5th, 26th February, 4th and 11th and 18th March 2024

If your child is selected to continue swimming, we will then request a voluntary donation of approximately £50 to cover the lessons. This covers the cost of two qualified swimming instructors and pool hire. If you require assistance in meeting these costs, (e.g. families eligible for free school meals or other financial difficulties), please contact the school office. We will not be requesting voluntary donations until after the initial selection on 8 th January. Children come to school in their school uniform, with their swimming things (including costumes) in a waterproof swimming bag. The children will be walked to Epsom College in time for their swimming lesson and back to school afterwards.

Please ensure your child is in school promptly as the children will leave at 8.55am. The small group will be taught by two qualified swimming instructors and each lesson will last for 45 minutes, after which your child will be walked back to school to resume lessons. Your child will need:

  • A named swimming costume/trunks (No leisure wear will be permitted, such as bikinis or Bermuda shorts).
  • A named towel
  • All swimming items must be placed in a named waterproof bag, which should be taken home each Monday after school.
  • Pupils with hair below the collar must wear a named swimming hat.
  • If your child has a verruca (or you suspect they may have one), they must wear a verruca sock. These can be purchased cheaply in most sports shops
